Another Human rights farce as Yorkshire Ripper fights for a pension

The Yorkshire Ripper has launched a legal battle for a state pension.

Serial killer Peter Sutcliffe plans to go to the European Court of Human Rights arguing that he has a right to draw the benefit because he paid his taxes before being jailed in 1981 for the murders of 13 women.

If he is successful, the 65-year-old held at Broadmoor Hospital could pocket £137.35 a week.

Peter Bone, Tory MP for Wellingborough, said: 'It is almost beyond belief that Peter Sutcliffe thinks he should be entitled to a state pension.

'What can his victims' families be feeling about this? Here we are, housing this man, giving him food and medical treatment and looking after his needs, and he wants a state pension on top of that.

'Why don't we deduct the money he thinks he is owed from the thousands of pounds that have been spent keeping him for the last 30 years?'

Sutcliffe filed a claim against the Government in November. It was recently refused by a High Court judge who ordered him to pay the £2,000 legal costs of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Read More
