Mortar shell found at Texas home was live WWII bomb

A vintage mortar shell discovered in a Texas home turned out to be a live World War 2 explosive.

A military bomb squad was called in when the shell was found in the yard of an empty house on Friday.

Police immediately evacuated the surrounding homes around the property in Collin County.

A maintenance worker hired by the bank which owns the house discovered the explosive underneath a pile of items, reports Fox 4.

The shell was secured over night while the squad from Fort Hood made their way to the property.

The soldiers removed the bomb put it in a box and drove it to a remote location where it was detonated it.
