Truce Agreed In Gaza After Days Of Violence



Israel has agreed to a ceasefire with Palestinian militants in Gaza following four days of deadly cross-border violence.

Egypt, which has been mediating between the two sides, brokered the ceasefire which an official said went into effect at 1am local time (2300gmt).

The official said that after hours of talks, the Palestinians agreed to stop launching rockets at southern Israeli cities and Israel agreed to stop targeting militants in airstrikes.

Officials from Israel and Hamas have declined to comment on the agreement.
